Artist's Comments

I started this the day before yesterday while Chrissy was sick, drawing in the semidark while she napped for an hour and a halfish...

I just, FINALLY, finished playing Ocarina of Time for the first time. After ten years of deep devotion and obsession, having seen friends and siblings beat it time after time, I, the non-gaming lame-o who falls off of everything, FINALLY beat my favorite game of all time. X3

And soooo many moments were just beautiful. This isn't just a random portrait, it's actually almost exactly referenced from a screen shot ([link]). I figured that was okay because a.) I suck at creating my own interpretations and have been way out of the swing of drawing >.>;;; and b.) there's something incredibly emotionally satisfying in rendering something exactly from the game into my style (hey wow, I have a style! :omfg: one of the many things about myself that Chrissy, BFF *CallistoHime, has been helping me realize X3 such as the fact that yes, I'm an artist and not just a wanna be >.>; and all sorts of things like that).

Scanning it in changed some things, like brought out the grain more and messed with lighting...I still like how it looks, though. ^^

Ocarina of Time is one of the most beautiful and stirring games of all time  IMO, the most.

Much love to Zelda, my BFF Chrissy, my other dearest friends and all beauty in the world ^_____^

edit: The turban and lower face are left without certain logical details because I, sentimentally / as beckoned by the muse, wanted to keep true to the screen shot. The only real significant departure from the screen shot is her eye...I felt like it wanted to be looking a little to the side...it just somehow fit the emotion, her emotion. Thanks for picking up on these details! But they're intentional. ^^

Done in two days, I don't know the hours :XD: with Chrissy's 0.7mm mechanical pencil and one of those click-click-click retractable erasers!

Ocarina of Time is my favorite, too! :D Most of the Zelda art I like seems to come from it, for some odd reason.

I really like this depiction of Sheik - Zelda. I don't see a lot a grayscale pencil drawings of Zelda, which is mostly why this one caught my eye. I have seen a few artworks of this particular screenshot, but this is the first one done in traditional art.

The first thing I noticed and liked about the drawing itself is the texture. Texture is difficult for me, so I tend to appreciate it more when others are good at it. It's not flat or boring, and his/her face doesn't look like porcelain or an outlined sketch. In fact I like the overall lack of lines.

A couple of technical notes...I cannot tell where the light is coming from. Looking on the middle left side of the figure, it's coming strong from the left. (But the cheek does not show this.) Looking at the face and hair it could be straight on or soft from the right, but nothing fro the left...until you look at the head wrapping...strong left-side light there again. At the bottom middle, it looks as if it's coming from below-middle. Definitely a conflict of light and shade there.

Also a note on the face... His/her eye seems to be well-placed...but it is looking off to the left side of the picture. Not sure if that was intention or if it should be looking straight at the "camera" like in the screenshot. And the nose is far too long...and the bottom of the nose isn't even visible yet. If you look at where the chin is, you'll see that there is very little room for the nostrils or lips. The nose should be above the wrapping...or the wrapping should be higher up on the face.

Another thing I really liked, though, was the hair. It's very firmly Legend of Zelda anime style...but more realistic than in the game. I like the texture and placement. I also like the detail of the little whisps of ragged cloth at the edge of the face wrapping.

I do like how you made the eye look more feminine. I feel the game cheated a bit in that Sheik's eye looked like a boy's eye, but Zelda's did not. They did that a bit in the movie Mulan, too. Eye shapes don't change, even if you're in disguise. :XD:

Anyway, I hope I have been of some help!

Whoa! *___* She looks amazing; I always love when she says, "Link, I have been waiting for you," and the music and the knowing what's to come (and especially after having read TCE and AtA)makes me feel mystified, happy, and sad all at once. You do indeed have a style, and it's wonderful. To think that you did this in such a short time, and did such a great job, is amazing :omfg: I love the way you do eyes; it's something that I've noticed on several of your works. You are indeed an artist.

In this picture specifically, regardless of opinions in general, Sheik is a girl. ^^

The reason the turban thing is like that is because it's specifically from the screen shot, which did not have that much detail and I just didn't feel like doing more, I wanted to keep it close to that :XD: I went off more with the hair, but I felt good about that...the cap, it just felt right leaving as is. ^^ I just followed my muse!

LOL! Awesome, falling off...everything :XD:

Oh, it was the same for me  never beat but knew more than a lot of OoT veterans about it!! Although OoT is the first game I KNEW, A Link to the Past is the first I ever beat. I've STARTED...all except the Oracle ones :XD:

I certainly did take breaks, work and starting to play Twilight Princess and RPing and writing and all sorts of goodness...I wasn't drawing for two days straight :giggle: but definitely for a few hours each day. ^___^

THANK YOU so much!
